The depth of the Christian Scriptures is boundless. Even if I were attempting to study them and nothing else, from boyhood to decrepit old age, with the utmost leisure, the most unwearied zeal, and with talents greater than I possess, I would still be making progress in discovering their treasures.
True principles, once understood and rightly comprehended, often have a quality of clear pure simplicity. Yet, sometimes, the more you comprehend, the more depth you perceive the doctrine to hold. Like gazing into a deep pool of crystal clear water you may be excited and astounded to learn that the doctrine is many, many times deeper than-at first-perceived. While looking into the pool of gospel doctrine you may discover depths "never attained to previously nor ever before had thought of" (Joseph Smith History 1:74). And, to fully perceive the width and depth that the pool holds, we must have the "eyes of our understanding opened" (D&C 138:11) and our minds "enlightened" (D&C 76:12) by the Spirit of the Lord.
ReplyDeleteBtw, I forgot to add that it was a great quote.
ReplyDeleteI love swimming in Lake Powell's deep azure waters rather than waking throught the mud. Thanks for the joy your thoughts provoke.
